Redefined: J.R. Smith is a four-part docuseries following J.R. Smith, whose story serves as a powerful reminder that with determination and resilience, one can overcome even the toughest setbacks and achieve success. Drafted to the NBA straight out of high school at just 19 years old, J.R. suddenly finds himself without an NBA team to call home and in search of redefining his life and career. The series picks up with J.R. as he sets a new intention for himself, getting a college education and pursuing a new athletic passion as a member of the Men's Golf Team at North Carolina A&T, the nation's largest Historically Black University.
J.R. Smith, his friends and family reflect on JR's NBA career, and J.R. arrives on campus to a warm welcome from his fellow North Carolina A&T Aggies - everyone is excited to have the NBA champion on campus.
J.R. meets his new team and quickly realizes there will be no gimmes here — he has to earn his spot on the team like everyone else. Senior teammates Diego and Xavier give him the freshman treatment as he adjusts to online classes and gets a feel for A&T's famous "Aggie Pride".
While J.R. embraces his studies at an HBCU steeped in social justice history, he becomes an advocate for the A&T golf team and prepares for his highly anticipated collegiate golf debut.
Tension builds amongst the team, leading to a closed-door meeting led by J.R.. Despite this, the team still finds ample reasons to celebrate.
