Resurrection

Dmitri Nekhlyudov, a nobleman, is summoned to serve on the jury in criminal court. As the prisoners are brought in, he is shocked to recognize one of them; a prostitute who is being tried for murder. Dmitri recognizes her as his aunt’s ward whom he seduced some years ago. Realizing that he played a role in her choosing this wrong path, he feels guilty and attempts to correct the mistake. The series first aired in four parts on the BBC in November and December of 1968. It aired in the United States in 1971 as an installment of Masterpiece Theatre.
