Later, the boy introduces himself as You Asakura, a Shaman-in-training, and demonstrates his powers by teaming up with the ghost of six-hundred-year-old samurai Amidamaru to save Manta from a group of thugs. You befriends Manta due to his ability to see spirits, and with the help of Amidamaru, they set out to accomplish You's goal of becoming the next Shaman King.

One of the Patch Officiants, Silva, unleashes his five animal spirits against Yoh to determine if he's worthy of participating in the Shaman Fight.
Now qualified for the tournament, Yoh faces his first opponent, Horohoro of Hokkaido, a proud Ainu shaman who can manipulate ice and snow.
Faust VIII, a necromancer who can manipulate corpses, enrages Yoh when he targets Manta for sadistic experimentation before their match.
With Ren as his next opponent, Yoh distances himself from Manta to ensure his friend's safety. Later, Yoh returns to Izumo to continue his training.
The last battle in the preliminary round begins. Fated rivals Yoh and Ren fight to the limit, but who will punch their ticket to the main tournament?

Faust VIII, who fought fiercely in the qualifying, appeared in front of the leaves looking for Lyserg who had disappeared. Faust, who has no acquaintance other than the leaves, offers an unexpected proposal. And finally, the curtain on the Shaman Fight main battle begins!!!
The first match of the tournament. Standing in front of "Team THE Lotus" were the shamans of Hao's minions, "Tsuchigumi." Chocolove, who was cornered by Sherman Peyote Diaz fighting by sneaky means and fell into a pinch of desperation, remembered the days with a certain person he once met.
The X Laws face a team but Lyserg finds himself unable to murder Hao's servants. Jeanne takes over the match and kills her rivals, claiming herself as justice.
Yoh becomes cocky over his new powers, claiming he will defeat the Icemen Team with one attack. During the match, Yoh reveals his and Amidamaru's powers have evolved enough to create a giant Oversoul named Spirit of Sword. However, he finds this tiring and Faust reveals his new trust towards his mates after Anna helped him meet the spirit of Elizabeth.
Faust and Ryu reveal their stronger Oversoul, scaring the Icemen. Yoh takes over the fight, instantly defeating them with the Spirit of Sword but making sure his rivals use all of their powers. In the aftermath, Hao tries the intimidated Ren to join him if he wants to defeat Yoh, but is rejected. Meanwhile, Yoh meets Lyserg.
While Yoh and Lyserg remain on friendly terms, the other X Laws want Yoh to join them but they are rejected. In the next day, the Shaman Fight continues with Hanagumi easily defeating their rivals, while Hao easily kills the X Laws who sacrifice their lives to reveal his weak point.
Yoh confesses that Hao is not only his predecessor but also his twin brother. This shocks most of his friends while his parents remember how they failed to kill the recently born Hao. Yoh's grandfather trained him in order to have him defeat his twin in the future.
