Shoot the Messenger is a political crime thriller that centres on the complex relationships between crime reporters and the police.The series follows Daisy Channing, a young reporter trying to balance a messy personal life with a burgeoning career. Things begin to go sideways for Daisy when she witnesses a murder she thinks is gang-related, only to find herself slowly drawn into an interconnected web of criminal and illicit sexual activity that reaches into the corridors of corporate and political power. It's the kind of story that will destroy lives, including those of her own family. With help from lead homicide detective Kevin Lutz, her editor Mary Foster and co-worker Simon Olenski, Daisy uncovers a cover-up so scandalous it could bring down the government.
When reporter Daisy Channing arrives to meet a source with "something big" to tell her, gunfire erupts, wounding her source and killing his friend. A parallel investigation into the murder begins, one spearheaded by homicide Detective Kevin Lutz and the other led by Daisy. As they dig deeper, it becomes clear that several well-connected people know much more than they're saying.
After recovering from the attack in Hassan's apartment, Daisy investigates the identities of the people in the now-missing photo. The Attorney General launches its investigation into police corruption, and retaliation for the death of Khaalid results in the death of a young girl.
Daisy and Simon discover surprising info on Orlandio Spence and Judge Reeves; Lutz works with the Guns and Gangs Unit; Daisy witnesses another murder.
After getting more info about the photo, Daisy and Simon make a shocking discovery; Khaallif gets arrested during a raid; Hassan goes on the run.
Daisy and Lutz's paths cross while investigating a new suspect; Judge Reeves resigns.
Daisy and Lutz rekindle their relationship; Simon discovers a link between Lawson and a mafia family; Hassan returns to sell the cell phone video.
When news of the cell phone video and Hassan's death breaks, the Gazette races to get their story out; Sam approves Lawson's project in order to get the phone.
The injunction against printing her story pushes a furious Daisy to make some bad decisions. New evidence confirms Daisy's and Lutz's suspicions, and they work together to reveal the truth about the murders.
