Scott also reappears in Nikki's life, making her suspicious with everything that is going on at work.

Tony learns of the pathologists death and fears that his son may be involved. Nikki is released from custody and grows ever more suspicious of Scott.

DI Nina Ryman joins the team to investigate with suspicions that a member of the English Defense League is involved, however a shocking fact about correspondance the man had before his death, throws the case into chaos.
Thomas puts his personal feelings to aside, as the team have to track the extremists before they strike again. It soon becomes clear that Ryman has been shot by someone else who perhaps isn't dead after all.
A ex-convict is found brutally murdered in their home, leaving the team and forensic psychologist Sasha Blackburn to try and work out who has committed the crime. Sasha has a link to a possible suspect, Paul Raynott, however as the case continues more and more of the men who Sasha works with are drawn into the case.
The team discover that Paul may not be who he actually says he is and they then discover he has been involved in a murder case before now. A revisit to the victims of Paul's first murder victim's family reopens old wounds, as more and more victims come to light. The last link in the chain may be in Sasha's hands, but is she too close to her clients to help solve the case.
A Polish teenager becomes the victim in an armed police operation, putting the department under severe scrutiny. Soon after the inquest delivers a lawful killing verdict, the body of a mutilated Turkish man turns up near the scene of the first shooting. Vicky Sharpe has to question whether the two killings are linked and approaches Lyell to seek help in sorting through the evidence. More bodies are discovered as the investigation continues and the team get drawn into the world of Turkish gangsters.
The body of an armed police officer is found as the investigation continues. The team join the manhunt for a supposed cop killer named Bruno. Jack hopes to reach the killer first and believes he can talk him into handing himself in, before more murders are committed. As he continues his own investigation, he soon uncovers links to the gun trade in London. The other armed police officers are questioning their safety after the murder and it soon becomes apparent that the killer is very highly trained, putting more pressure on Jack and the links he has uncovered.
The Lyell team investigate the clinical shooting of a mother, stepfather and son by the River Malt, to determine who killed this picnicking family and why. The investigation soon turns to the female victim's estranged husband. The couple were in the middle of a bitter and acrimonious divorce, and records kept by the deceased show that the husband has a propensity for violence.
Working on the case is local detective Malcolm Guillam, about to retire and haunted by the death of a young woman near the River Malt ten years ago. When the present day murder brings back memories of the unsolved case, Guillam sees an opportunity to redeem himself. But leading the investigation is DCI Butcher, who is certain the estranged husband is responsible for the murder, and has little time for Guillam's perceived trip down memory lane.
Meanwhile, registrar Amy is advancing in her surgical career when news of the River Malt shooting brings back memories of the same incident that haunts DS Guillam. Attempting to bury her past, Amy is unwillingly pulled back into the same world that caused the death of her friend ten years ago and forced to confront the high-powered people she has been trying desperately to forget.
As DCI Butcher moves closer to charging the estranged husband of the family killed at the picnic, Jack and Nikki join DS Guillam in search of the truth. The team begin to realise they may have been looking down the wrong end of the telescope, and their lives are thrown into mortal danger. Soon enough, they are thrust into an unexpected and depraved world, and further murders are discovered. Jack and Nikki must fight to escape and bring those responsible to justice.
Meanwhile, Amy's dark past begins to catch up with her and she must decide whether to keep it buried or confront it head-on, risking her medical career and everything else in order to escape her demons. Amy's nightmare and the Lyell's investigation begin to converge. And when the crimes are linked to people in very high places, the team experience the difficulty of bringing the rich and powerful to justice.
