Reeling from the death of her beloved father and a difficult breakup, Monica, is ready to move forward with her life as she tries to land the new hosting job for an afternoon talk show. When she hires a new assistant, Simone, the two quickly become close friends as Simone moves in next door and completely immerses herself in Monica's life. But underneath her sweet exterior, Simone harbors a dark secret and as time goes on cracks in her façade begin to appear. Monica decides to sever ties once and for all with Simone, but Simone has other plans and is determined to take over Monica's life for good.

In the sequel, Monica is living in Seattle and hosting an investigative TV show. Her half-sister Simone learns of Monica's whereabouts and the two sisters have a fateful reunion. 

After being wrongfully convicted of murder, Monica has finally been exonerated—but freedom comes at a price. Though the charges against her have been dropped, the stain of suspicion lingers, and reclaiming her life, her career, and the trust of those around her is proving to be an uphill battle. Meanwhile, the real threat has yet to vanish. Simone, now a fugitive, has fled to a convent in Mexico, having no choice but to abandon Houston, along with the one thing she truly cared about—her daughter, Joy. When a terrifying nightmare shakes her to the core, Simone becomes convinced Joy is in danger and returns to Houston, for a final reckoning between the estranged half-sisters. It's only a matter of time before old grudges resurface and Monica and Simone come face-to-face. K. Michelle reprises her role as Monica's best friend Bebe.
