From Covid to lockdowns to exam chaos, lately schoolkids have had the toughest of times. Pupils at a Midlands school film their year of turning 16 and taking GCSEs in the middle of a pandemic.
In the first episode, it's September 2020 and, after six months away from classrooms, the students return for their final year. However, the threat of being forced back home remains.
As the Christmas holidays approach, there are only six months left of school and the students are anxious about the impact the national lockdown will have on their ambitions for the future. After a tricky start to the term, Sade is awarded Learner of the Week, which is some welcome good news following a tough few months. Callum is distracted and falling behind on his revision, but his mentor is on hand to offer some words of encouragement.
As the pandemic hists, cameras monitor the most challenging period in living memory, juggling lockdowns, testing and exam chaos at the Link Academy, Dudley. The school's Year 11 pupils were given their own cameras to record their final year with personal video diaries. This series documents their lives as they turn 16, and prepare to take their GCSEs and to make major decisions about their future, all in the midst of the public health crisis.
