Next Episode of Ski A&E is
unknown.
Based in Val Thorens, one of the highest ski resorts in Europe with over 400,000 visitors each year, the dedicated team of rescuers and A&E staff encounter a range of emergency situations and challenges every day. From the unfolding drama of the 999 call from the black run, through to the race against the clock - and the weather - to rescue and treat the patient, Ski A&E follows the action every step of the way. And it's not just emergencies on the slopes. The various teams are on call 24/7 and, like in any bustling holiday resort, face all sorts of medical scenarios from altitude sickness, stomach bugs and fevers, to the occasional, overindulgent après skier.
It's Changeover Day in Val Thorens, which means legions of first-time and out-of-practice skiers hitting the slopes with sometimes disastrous consequences.
There's a rare crisis in Val Thorens when one of biggest cable cars in the world breaks down, leaving up to 100 people dangling from a wire 50 metres above the mountainside.
It's the famous Varsity Week, when rival Oxbridge universities hit town for a downhill grudge match - alongside the usual dramatic backdrop of cases from the slopes of Val Thorens.
Patrol teams work to prevent avalanches, using dynamite, train their rescue dogs, and desperately seek a 14-year-old boy who is missing after skiing off-piste alone.
