In 2012, Channel 4 and Cancer Research UK joined forces to launch Stand Up to Cancer in the UK, to accelerate life-saving cancer research. Led by the brightest stars in film, TV and music, it was the most successful charity fundraiser on UK commercial TV in its first year - ever.Following on from that, the campaign has now raised over £23.8 million. The money raised so far has been spent funding clinical trials, which aim to improve survival rates and bring breakthroughs in labs to the patients who need them. Over 9,000 people have, or are about to benefit from these cutting edge trials, and this is still only the beginning.
Davina McCall, Maya Jama, Adam Hills and Alan Carr host a spectacular, star-studded evening of entertainment to raise funds for vital cancer research, with Joe Lycett cajoling the audience all night via his high-tech hub with help from his nationwide band of celebrity reporters. Over the course of the night, the initiative is supported by stars including Olivia Colman, Usain Bolt, Jack Black, Tom Jones, Kris Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Sue Perkins, Rosie Jones, Mo Gilligan, James Blunt, Kate Beckinsale, Steve Coogan, Jeremy Clarkson, Josh Widdicombe, Jamie Oliver and Natalie Imbruglia appear. Friends and family members compete in fiendishly silly challenges, and famous faces throw themselves into ridiculous stunts, all to illustrate the impressive science behind SU2C's goal of ending cancer.
