Such Brave Girls explores life and love in all its ugly chaos. Join Josie, Billie and their mum, Deb as they attempt to claw their way towards a better life. Armed only with an ability to see the line and boldly step over it, these very brave girls finally have a chance to explore themselves - but should they?
Deb invites new boyfriend Dev home to meet her daughters Billie and Josie, whilst desperately trying to suppress how troubled they are. Josie's face isn't doing a very good job of covering up how depressed she is, so Deb sets out to teach her how fulfilling capitalism can be, by taking her shopping. Billie spots the love of her life Nicky with a new girl, so decides to win him back with a significant change to her appearance and discovers just how much love hurts.
Despite enjoying his stoic silence, Deb's starting to worry that she and Dev might have nothing to talk about. She's determined to find something in common through any means necessary.
Billie is worried that Nicky might be pulling away from her so decides to play hard to get. Josie is trying to impress the girl at the bar but her relentlessly loving and wormy boyfriend Seb has just found out she's back and is keen to get things back to how they used to be.
The pressure's on for Josie as she's determined to make her birthday dinner last as long as possible, so she doesn't have to come good on a deal she's made with her boyfriend Seb.
Deb thinks she's really getting through to Dev's wallet, and maybe this time he's going to step up and finally pay for something, especially considering he's the one who suggested they all go for dinner.
As Billie and Josie's imminent breakdowns loom, Deb tries to pretend everything's fine with a big trip to the woods.
But she's mainly there to prove she's just as outdoorsy as Dev's wife used to be. In an attempt to prove she's more than her trauma and because she's got "loads" of pain, Josie decides she's an artist, which upsets everyone.
She doesn't let her lack of inspiration or discernible talent stop her. Billie welcomes a new man into her life, and takes on the big questions like, if God is good, why is there evil in the world? And, if God made nature, why is it so relentlessly boring?
Over one long night, Deb, Billie and Josie find their own ways to process death after visiting their nan in hospital.
Josie starts to wonder whether her own pathetic life might be half lived and Billie tries to find their Dad. Billie and Josie attempt to cope with their profound existential despair by going clubbing, where Billie befriends her rival and Josie finally works out who she is.
Back at home, Dev's got a bee in his bonnet about sending the girls to therapy and Deb's on a mission to prove therapy is useless. Seb starts to panic that Josie might be kissing a girl.
Preparing to see their dad again, Josie writes a speech to tell him how she feels, and Billie's got newfound confidence that all men eventually come crawling back.
Dev is gutted he's not invited to a family funeral, and has a very big question for Deb. With a fresh swagger, Josie's breakdown is welcome news for Seb, who can't wait to spend the rest of his life with her. Lunch at Dev's house goes to waste as it's abandoned for a rescue mission, and worst of all, Deb might be forced to come clean about her lie.
