Created by Reshma Ghatala, Sweet Kaaram Coffee is a slice of life series. Three women of different generations living in the same house attempt to put themselves before the people they are bound by for the first time. What follows is a journey of fun, fumbling and finding self.
70 year old Sundari, fed up of her son's coddling, plots her escape towards an unknown destination joined by her granddaughter Niveditha and daughter-in-law Kaveri. Niveditha, a 24 year old cricketer wants to get away from her boyfriend who she's at an impasse with while Kaveri, 'who's just a mother', has had enough of her thankless service to the family.
The trio rest for the night at a questionable motel. Kaveri strikes an unlikely friendship. Rajaratnam's sudden and untimely sickness threatens their trip.
After Sundari thwarts her son's efforts, the women land up at a cultural festival. Nivi stumbles upon an exciting prospect. Kaveri is visited by a ghost from the past. The trio have to deal with an unexpected problem.
The trio's car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. They take refuge in a small village in the back of beyond, where Kaveri meets her counterpart. Sundari seeks an address. Nivi begins to understand her mother.
On Sundari's cue, the women embark on a temple trip, where they bump into a foreign couple. Nivi is surprised to find Vikram at a local market, who invites the women to camp with his gang. Kaveri visits a gharana with Vikram. Sundari finally gets the address she's been after.
A major disagreement drives a wedge between the women. As Julia and Robert get married, the women find themselves revisiting their pasts.
Nivi and Kaveri rue their behaviour as they wait to hear from the doctor. Kaveri calls Rajaratnam after what seems like a lifetime. Nivi realises she knows nothing about her folks.
The family is reunited. Just as the women begin to rejoice on their new and improved lives, there is a knock on the door.
