Some of the lucky invited guests attending the ceremony talk to the programme, along with those who have had close and personal connections with King Charles for many years. Kirsty speaks to celebrities who have spent time with the King, and hears from some of the people across the nation taking on once-in-a-lifetime roles in this historic ceremony.

As the armed forces prepare for one of the largest military parades in living memory, JJ Chalmers will speak to servicemen and women from across the UK and the Commonwealth as they arrive in London to take their positions.

Providing commentary along the ceremonial route, Claire Balding will cover the pomp, pageantry and festivities as the King's procession makes its way through the iconic streets of ceremonial London. Anita Rani will be amongst the crowds, talking to members of the public who have travelled to the capital from across the country to be part of the celebrations. Centre stage will be Westminster Abbey, where Sophie Raworth will be outside, speaking to those lucky enough to have received an invitation. The Coronation Concert, broadcast live from the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Take That, international superstar Lionel Richie, global pop icon Katy Perry, international opera star Andrea Bocelli, Welsh bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel, singer/songwriter Freya Ridings and classical-soul composer/producer Alexis Ffrench are just some of the artists who will grace the stage.

They are part of an eclectic line-up of artists who will perform at this once-in-a-lifetime event, celebrating the coronation of Their Majesties the King and the Queen in front of 20,000 members of the public and invited guests.

Kirsty Young will be hearing from performers in a specially built studio within the castle grounds, and backstage, Clara Amfo and Jordan Banjo will be grabbing chats with the artists. There will also be films revealing some of the stories behind the meticulous preparations that have gone into creating an unforgettable night.

The concert will celebrate a new chapter in the nation's history, with themes of love, respect and optimism, celebrating the four nations, their communities and the Commonwealth.

The artists will be backed by world-class musicians, including a 70-piece orchestra and house band comprising the Massed Bands of the Household Division and the Countess of Wessex's String Orchestra.

Alongside the stars of the concert, the show will also see an exclusive appearance from the Coronation Choir. This diverse group has been created from the nation's keenest community choirs and amateur singers from across the United Kingdom.

The concert will also feature a virtual choir, made up of singers from across the Commonwealth, for a special performance on the night.

The centrepiece of the Coronation Concert, Lighting Up the Nation, will see the country join together in celebration as iconic locations across the United Kingdom are lit up, using projections, lasers, drone displays and illuminations.

The concert will feature a broad mix of music spanning pop to classical, along with spoken word and dance performances reflecting arts and culture from around the UK and the wider Commonwealth.


S01E08 - A Scottish Service of Thanksgiving and Dedication Air Date: 05 July 2023 12:30 -

The King and Queen are in Edinburgh for the presentation of the Honours of Scotland. Sally Magnusson and James Naughtie will guide you through the ceremonial events as Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, together with the Prince and Princess of Wales, attend a special service in St Giles' Cathedral. There will be music from Nicola Benedetti, Karen Cargill, the National Youth Choir of Scotland and many more.

A people's and honours' procession from Edinburgh Castle to St Giles' will feature a tri-service guard of honour, marching pipes and drums, as well as Corporal Cruachan IV, the official Shetland pony mascot of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. Both the Household Cavalry and the Red Arrows will add to the colour and spectacle of this historic occasion.
