The Family Brain Games follows eight brilliant families from all walks of life as they come together in a specially designed ‘games lab' to compete in the ultimate test of intelligence.
In the opening episode, we meet the high-achieving Ross family from London – writer and mum Katie, financial advisor dad Jonathan and their two children, musical prodigy Amelia, 14, who writes classical concerto in her spare time, and rock collector Alexander, 12, who loves geology. Their opponents are the Latin-loving Griffiths family from Woking, including prison-educator and mum Anne, dad David, who is also in education, and Latin scholars Will, 16, and Ollie, 13.
Competitive youngsters Amelia and Ollie are hoping to lead their families to victory, but who will overcome brain freeze and inch closer to The Family Brain Games crown?
In the second heat of the tournament, two more of Britain's cleverest families go head to head to test their cerebral mettle. First up are the maths-crazy Smith family from Ayrshire - dad Chris, who was named Scottish Maths Teacher of the Year 2018, mum Elaine, a specialist teacher of the deaf, and their daughters Daisy, 12, who can quote pi to 20 decimal places, and Heidi, 11, who was the youngest person to win the Scottish Maths Challenge Award in 2018.
The Riley family and the Kerr family prepare to have their intellectual talents tested like never before.
In the final heat, the Mohammed family from Watford and the Smith family from Cumbria compete for the last remaining spot in the semi-finals.
In semi-finals week, the six remaining families battle it out to be crowned the ultimate winner of The Family Brain Games 2019, all under the watchful eyes of leading neuroscientist Dr Hannah Critchlow.
In the second semi-final, two more of last week's winning families return to the games lab and go head to head in the ultimate test of intelligence in a bid to make it through to the final.
In the last semi-final, the competition reaches fever pitch. The fastest runners-up from the heats go head to head and need to push their brains to the limit in order to reach the final.
Tonight is the grand final of The Family Brain Games tournament and the three sharpest families are attempting the final super-charged challenges with ultimate levels of difficulty. They play two cognitive challenges, followed by a further round of the fiendishly difficult Interrogation game. We say goodbye to one family, leaving the remaining two families in direct competition for the final as they go head to head in The Ultimate Brain Game.
