The Good Wife follows Alicia Florrick, a wife and mother who boldly assumes full responsibility for her family and re-enters the workforce after her husband's very public sex and political corruption scandal lands him in jail. Pushing aside the betrayal and crushing public humiliation caused by her husband Peter, Alicia starts over by pursuing her original career as a defense attorney.
Alicia attempts to revive her struggling law career by representing arrestees seeking release on bail in bond court, where she meets attorney Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo), who competes for her clients. Also, Peter brings in national strategist Ruth Eastman (Margo Martindale)
to help with his presidential campaign, and creates an interesting dynamic with Eli in the process.
Alicia hires a new investigator, and a new friend from bond court helps her with a case. Eli uses Alicia to maneuver his way back into Peter's campaign. Cary looks for a way to get Howard out of the firm.
Alicia and Lucca work together on a complicated court case involving a designer drug dealer. Also, Eli encourages Alicia and Veronica to participate in a mother/daughter cooking show to help Peter's campaign, with disastrous results
Alicia clashes with the bond court judge when she agrees to support a client's plea of innocence in a shoplifting case. Also, Diane is coerced by her client's counsel, Ethan Carver, to argue against her own beliefs in a case about physician assisted suicide.
Jason employs aggressive investigative tactics when he assists Alicia and Lucca with a student loan case. Also, Howard Lyman alleges ageism at Lockhart, Agos & Lee, pointing to Cary as the primary offender, and Eli stirs up Florrick family drama on Peter's presidential campaign.
Alicia and Lucca defend a client who was fired from a technology firm for failing a polygraph test. Also, Eli plots to leak something that would damage Peter's presidential campaign but could inadvertently hurt Alicia.
Alicia and Lucca join a case involving an automotive executive represented by Lockhart, Agos & Lee, and an employee represented by Louis Canning, who was involved in a crippling accident while test-driving a car operating in "driverless" mode. Also, when Ruth and Eli pursue Courtney Boalt, a potential campaign contributor, Peter moves back in with Alicia to present a united family image
Diane becomes conflicted when she is forced to argue a heated case between pro-choice and pro-life advocates in order to retain an important client. Meanwhile, Alicia and Lucca, desperate for new business, try to poach clients from Louis Canning.
Alicia and Lucca join forces with Louis Canning to defend a Web site accused of racial profiling. Meanwhile, Eli and Ruth worry about the nature of Alicia's relationship with Jason and how it could impact Peter's presidential campaign.
Alicia and Lucca defend a well-respected surgeon who is accused of plotting to commit a crime. Meanwhile, Ruth schemes to remove Jason from Alicia's life by trying to persuade Courtney Paige to hire him for business in another state.
Tensions run high as the entire Florrick family is crammed into Peter's campaign bus with Eli and Ruth on their way to the Iowa Caucuses. Once there, Peter attempts a high-risk political stunt to gain votes for his presidential bid
Alicia and Cary join forces to defend a former client facing a multi-million dollar lawsuit over ownership rights to his new music. Also, Alicia's neighbors are unhappy that her law firm is operating out of her apartment and threaten to evict her.
Alicia argues against Judge Schakowsky when she learns that a former bond court client was wrongfully imprisoned. Also, Diane assists the student editor of a college newspaper when the school threatens to fire her for writing a politically charged article.
Alicia has trouble adjusting when she returns to work at Lockhart, Agos & Lee with Lucca. Their first case, involving a secret new computer tablet, causes a rift within the firm.
Alicia joins a secret panel of attorneys advising the U.S. government on a controversial case. Also, Eli hires Elsbeth Tascioni to uncover why the FBI is targeting Peter.
As the grand jury against Peter Florrick is assembled, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Connor Fox leading the proceedings, Alicia, Eli and Peter's lawyer, Mike Tascioni, attempt to discover what charges are being leveled against him. Also, Alicia and Jason attempt to spend a quiet weekend together but are interrupted by her meddling family.
Diane defends a grieving father who made a billboard blaming a gun seller for his daughter's death. Alicia and Jason's romance hits a snag. Eli has a plan to exploit his advantage in Peter's grand jury hearing.
Alicia and Diane defend the privacy rights of a therapist whose neighbor, represented by attorney Caitlyn D'Arcy, flies a drone over his home office. Also, Assistant U.S. Attorney Connor Fox attempts to use Eli's daughter, Marissa, as leverage in the case against Peter, and the power struggle at Lockhart, Agos & Lee reaches a boiling point.
Alicia and Lucca travel to Toronto to represent NSA Agent Jeff Delinger who was detained by customs officers while attempting to re-enter the United States. Also, Diane grows concerned when her husband, Kurt McVeigh, decides to retire and sell his business to Holly Westfall, a rival business owner, and Peter contemplates an uncertain future when he faces possible arrest.
Alicia's night goes from bad to worse when she throws a party to celebrate Howard and Jackie's upcoming wedding. Also, Eli asks Jason to investigate Peter in preparation for his trial.
As Peter's trial begins, Alicia works desperately to keep her husband from returning to jail. Also, Diane and Lucca move aggressively to expand the law firm, but face serious opposition from David Lee.
The series reaches its dramatic conclusion.
