The Great Big Tiny Design Challenge challenges designers to renovate an entire derelict mansion, inspired by real-world designs. The catch is that the luxury fantasy home they must renovate is doll sized.Whilst the projects may be tiny, the task is huge. Our cast of miniacs (people who create all things miniature) will be set a series of challenges to test their design and practical skills. From crafting a Regency inspired dining room, complete with a dinner service and spread to die for to designing an Art Deco Bathroom, fitted with a a fully plumbed bath. Many of the installations they create in each mini build will need to function and fit the brief to pass the judges' critical eye.
Sandi Toksvig hosts as amateur crafters compete to transform a mini mansion. The miniaturists make busts and a Regency dining room.
The nine remaining miniaturists tackle art deco design, working against the clock to create miniature toiletries befitting a 1920s bathroom. The two winners of this first challenge will lead the next test - building the bathroom itself, which must include a bath with running water.
The eight remaining miniaturists create a Victorian nursery full of tiny toys, a pram, a puppet theatre, a rocking horse and a doll's house within the doll's house.
The seven miniaturists tackle an Elizabethan bedroom, which must contain a bed, fireplace, writing desk and a musical instrument. They also create period-appropriate accessories.
The miniaturists tackle the most ambitious build to date - a two-floored Rococo hallway including a mural, console table and chaise longue, as well as accessories for a Masquerade.
The five remaining miniaturists tackle an Edwardian games room, containing a billiard table, display cabinet and indoor plant. Plus, Sandi visits Polesden Lacey in the Surrey Hills.
The miniaturists must create a Georgian kitchen in the semi-final, spanning the width of the mini mansion. The maker of the week has an automatic place in the final.
In the final round, the miniaturists create a statement period piece before designing their dream room for the mini mansion.
