The Highland Midwife is a 3-part documentary series that follows the work of midwives in rural parts of Scotland.
Michelle is determined to have a local birth, but midwife Pam knows that the size of her fourth baby may make this impossible. Siobhan's MS has been in remission during the pregnancy, but midwife Gail knows it is likely to come back after labour. Midwife Alison must act quickly when Mihaela develops dangerously high blood pressure, putting both mum and baby in danger.
Midwife Brenda is concerned that Steffi and Tom's baby may arrive before they can make it to the hospital. Meanwhile, Katie, who is at 40 weeks, prepares for the birth of her baby in a birthing pool in her front room.
On the north east coast, midwife Sheena looks after a woman who recently had a miscarriage, and is concerned about her pregnancy this time around. Pam, who works at Belford Hospital in the town of Fort William below Ben Nevis, hopes to deliver Fiona's second baby there, just as she delivered her first child. Fiona's first baby was premature, and Pam is concerned that might happen again. Meanwhile, Karen and her husband Stuart face a problem as neither of them drive and could struggle to get to the hospital when Karen goes into labour.
Claire wants a local delivery in Belford Hospital rather than have to visit Inverness to be induced, while in the village of Ellon, Vicky has very high blood pressure and a condition that is dangerous for both mother and baby. In Fort William, midwife Pam is worried that mum Courtney's second child will arrive even quicker than her first.
