The Killing is an American crime drama television series that premiered on April 3, 2011, on AMC, based on the Danish television series Forbrydelsen (literally The Crime). Set in Seattle, Washington, the series follows the various murder investigations by homicide detectives Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) and Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman).
AMC announced the series' cancellation in July 2012, but picked it up for a third season after a renegotiation with Fox Television Studios and Netflix. The Killing was again cancelled by AMC in September 2013, but Netflix announced in November 2013 that it had ordered a fourth season consisting of six episodes to conclude the series. The complete fourth season was released on Netflix in all territories on August 1, 2014 (source: en.wikipedia.org)
A detective's last day in homicide finds her investigating the disappearance of a 17-year-old girl who was supposed to be spending the weekend with a friend from school in the opener of this crime-drama series. When the teen's parents learn she didn't show up for class on Monday, they launch their own search, and when word gets out about the missing girl, a mayoral candidate cancels a forum planned at the high school.
Linden and Holder visit Rosie's high school to question classmates and teachers about where she may have gone after the dance; Richmond and his staff go into spin mode over the fact that the victim was found in a car linked to his campaign.
Police try to determine the connection between the teen girl's murder and the grisly crime scene at "The Cage" in the basement of the high school.
Rosie's ex-boyfriend Jasper comes under pressure from Sarah and Holder, who also grill a new suspect about the murder. The victim's best friend, Sterling, spills some astonishing secrets about Rosie's personal life. Meanwhile, grief-stricken Stan and Mitch plan their daughter's funeral service, and candidate Richmond seeks a financial shot-in-the-arm at a ritzy party, where he hopes to raise funds.
One of Rosie's teachers provides Sarah and Holder with crucial new evidence. Meanwhile, the Richmond campaign comes up with an anticrime TV spot; and Stan steps up his search for Rosie's killer and enlists Belko's help.
A suspect's family, neighbors and friends are grilled by Sarah and Holder. Meanwhile, Richmond and his campaign adviser Gwen don't see eye-to-eye on strategy for his upcoming debate with the mayor; Rosie's funeral is held; and Stan intensifies his own investigation into his daughter's murder.
The police discover more about Rosie's activities the night of her murder; candidate Richmond's campaign is in danger of being stopped in its tracks by a negative ad, and he takes action; and Mitch begins to wonder about the direction of the police department's investigation.
While steering clear of the FBI, Sarah and Holder uncover some surprising new evidence; Richmond scrambles to get back into the mayoral race; and Mitch's actions endanger her sons, leaving Stan to try and gain the upper hand.
Police efforts to make an arrest hit a roadblock; Richmond reconsiders his place in the race; and the Larsens tire of the police's inability to collar a suspect and decide to take matters into their own hands.
The police must regroup after they have second thoughts about a prime suspect, which has a big impact on Richmond's standings in the polls. Meanwhile, Stan's actions could quite possibly land him behind bars.
The investigation takes an interesting turn when Sarah and Holder learn more about Rosie's whereabouts on the night of her murder. But everything must be put on hold when Jack goes missing, and the two detectives go searching for him.
As the investigation continues, Rosie is tied to an unusual Web site; work is halted on the waterfront project, which gives Richmond's campaign a shot in the arm; and imprisoned Stan comes to grips with his demons, while Mitch uncovers secrets about her murdered daughter.
The identification of the mysterious Orpheus provides a vital connection to the case; Mitch and Stan reflect on the past while contemplating their family's future
