Following two families as they brave the elements and wildlife of Alaska to compete for food sources as the winter freeze looms around the corner.
The Alaskans continue their hunt for food as the cold finally takes over; they must traverse frozen lakes and rely on their sled dogs to pull them through dense snow as the daylight hours -- and resources -- dwindle.
The sun's return serves as both a blessing and a burden; along with the sun come the big predators who normally stay hidden during winters, posing a threat to the Alaskans.
The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge serves as home to some of Alaska's most extreme animals and most durable people; they must pursue a massive migration of caribou, contend with bears for food, and watch out for dangerous bull moose.
With the seasons still warm, the Last Alaskans must contend for food and prepare for the long frozen winter; they face danger at every turn as the animal that feeds them can also kill them.
Having put their bodies on the line to find food for the long, harsh winter, the Alaskans face its arrival and hope they have enough food stocked away.
Winter arrives and the Last Alaskans settle in for the dark season; they must cross frozen lakes and set plenty of traps to keep their supply of food plentiful while battling nature and the elements.
