unknown.
Drama series based on the John le Carré novel. A hotel night manager is recruited by a government agent to infiltrate the inner circle of a ruthless arms dealer.
Hotel night manager Jonathan Pine receives a plea for help from a well-connected guest. His actions draw him into the world of Richard Roper, businessman and arms dealer.
Roper and his entourage are preparing for a lavish meal on the Island. Following their dinner, the group find themselves confronted by two robbers who kidnap Daniel. However all is not as it seems, as there's a mysterious man lurking in the shadows. A flashback to six months earlier, shows Pine and Burr meeting in Zermatt, as they discuss how they want to bring Roper down. Pine begins to leave a trail of criminal activities, to try and gain Roper's trust and inflitrate his close-knit group.
A glamorous party held by Roper's business associate Juan, in honour of his daughter's birthday, soon turns sour when the guest of honour is found dead. Roper digs deeper into Pine's past and confronts him over what he's found already, he then offers him a position in his operation, but Corky remains deeply suspicious. Pine takes Daniel into town, giving him an opportunity to share information about Roper's operation with Burr. Burr uses Apostol's guilt to her own advantage and tells Roper and Langbourne that Corky is the leak.
Now working for Roper and living under the guise of Andrew Birch, Pine is fully immersed in Roper's world and is preparing for his first business deal. However, as Pine and Jed's relationship develops and tension grows, Corky's fierce jealousy gets the better of him and he threatens to expose Pine if he steps out of line.
A suspicious Roper gathers his entourage around him in an attempt to root out the traitor, forcing Pine to play a dangerous game. In London, Burr and Steadman face mounting opposition from Whitehall.
Roper and his team return to Cairo for the deal, reuniting Pine with an old enemy. Pine risks it all to put his plan in motion. A discredited Burr makes one last stand.
