In the Lake District, Iona and Peter Frost-Pennington - owners of Muncaster Castle - are about to put 800 years of family history in the hands of first-year performing arts students at the annual Halloween festival. And at Bleak Bank farm in the Dales, will John Dawson be the final Dawson to work on the land?

There's a palpable sense of urgency in the air in the Dales as lambing season starts for the hill farming Dawson family, with the arrival of forty lambs per day. In Swaledale, at Britain's highest pub, the Tan Hill Inn, Vanessa and Nigel have survived the winter months but must now decide if running one of the remotest hostelries in Britain is really for them. Also, Ribblesdale primary, a 300-year-old village school in Horton, faces closure. And gamekeeper David Hutchinson and his team begin preparing the fells and woods for the shooting season.
In this final episode of the series, as the busiest event of the year fast approaches, there's a staffing crisis at Tan Hill Inn, Britain's highest pub. At Muncaster Castle in the Lakes, the library ceiling needs urgent repair work, including intricate gold-leaf design. Lake Warden Martin Dodgson patrols Windermere, England's largest natural lake.
