Rockland Ranch is a community unlike any other. In the middle of the Utah desert 14 fundamentalist Mormon families have made a unique home for themselves, a safe haven where they are free to practise a way of life that's met with both fascination and suspicion. Living in contemporary 'cave' houses that have been carved into the side of an enormous sandstone rock, half of the men here are polygamists, with multiple wives. With unprecedented access to this unique community, this series offers an intimate and revealing insight into the everyday lives of modern polygamous families. With narratives as rich as any drama, the series explores how the families navigate both the practical and emotional challenges of plural marriage and examines the values and beliefs that lie behind it.
Dad of 16 Enoch is happily married to Catrina and Lillian and is courting 25-year-old nanny Lydia Rose. Enoch's neighbour Abel knows the challenges and jealousies that a third marriage can bring.
Abel Morrison has three wives and eleven children. His newest wife, 22-year-old Marina, is heavily pregnant so it's a chaotic time for the family and relationships are under strain. While Abel's first wife, Suzie, takes the challenges of plural marriage in her stride, his second wife Beth is struggling with Marina's demands on Abel's attention. On the day of the birth, things come to a head and she finds it difficult to contain her emotions. While the family work to overcome their insecurities and rebuild relationships, a bombshell could turn life as they know it upside down. Meanwhile, Anna, the daughter of the community's founder, is busy preparing for the 'end of days', when society will collapse ahead of Christ's second coming. She and her husband Cary have eight children, and while he's open to the possibility of plural marriage, she's in no hurry to find a sister wife.
Melinda and Anazella's husband Jim recently passed away after a long battle with cancer. His dying wish was for his brother Abel to marry his two widows and bring up his seven children. Abel wants to abide by Jim's wish and obey God's will, but he has three wives already. The prospect of further upheaval and even less time with their husband is daunting for Abel's wives and they're yet to come to terms with the promises he's made. Melinda and Anazella are also struggling with the decision. As sister wives they earned the nickname 'the two-headed dragon' and their marriage was marred by jealousy and fighting. Although Jim's death has united them in grief, they must now choose whether to stay together as a family and risk living through the heartache of plural marriage again, or going their own way.
Chris dreams of having four wives and 50 children, but his wife Sasha has reservations. Meanwhile, the Utah State Senate is attempting to make polygamy a felony again.
