Exploring Mexico's complex cultural heritage, this atmospheric crime thriller centers on a journalist who joins forces with a police lieutenant in a quest to uncover the truth behind a series of visceral murders that resemble Aztec sacrifices in modern-day Mexico City.
Casasola, who is known as "El Poeta" in the area, discovers the remains of an individual. In one of the exhibition rooms of the Templo Mayor Museum, Elisa is horrified to discover that there are fresh human remains on a ceremonial altar.
Edith, accompanied by Mejía, goes to the Templo Mayor to investigate. Casasola and Quintana receive the whistle of what could be the new red note. In the Palace of the Archbishopric, a ceremonial knife appears, bloody, on an ancient bible.
Elisa sets up an altar, unaware that the Witch has entered her house. Elisa realizes that there is a pattern behind the crimes. Casasola manages to deduce that there should be a new sacrifice. The Witch leads Elisa to a place where everything is darkness.
In the early morning hours, subway guards see a mysterious figure enter the tunnels on the tracks. Reviewing the videos, Mondragón and Casasola come across The Sanctuary of the serial killer. Casasola is having nightmares controlled by the Witch.
A body appears on the Island of the Dolls. This crime increases the relevance of the ritual killer case. Mejía and Mondragón realize that Casasola always supported the ritual killer theory, and led and distracted them with his speculations.
Casasola manages to get out of custody, because the evidence accusing him is circumstantial. He discovers the connection between the victims of the ritual killer. Outside a Cantina in the Historic Center, a strange procession of vagrants takes place.
Captain Peña asks Mondragón to solve the case of the ritual killer within 24 hours or he will remove her from the case. Casasola discovers a grotto, where he finds a lair with the five missing heads of the ritual killer's decapitated victims.
Captain Peña pressures Mondragón to find the serial killer or fabricate a culprit. The Minister receives a call informing him that La Bruja has been captured. In the sky, a comet passes by: the penultimate omen.
Captain Peña is forced to ask Mondragón for her temporary resignation. Elisa notes that the penultimate omen of the Florentine Codex has been fulfilled. The only thing missing is that of "a mother who cries" in allusion to the myth of La Llorona.
Casasola discovers that Elisa has disappeared. The Witch steals the Borgia Codex from the Museum of Anthropology; where she will find the incantation that will open the portal to the gods when the last sacrifice is made. Casasola arrives at the Templo Mayor, where the stone of Tlahtecutli is located. A slit of light appears in the air, indicating that the portal is open.
