"Torvill & Dean's Dancing On Ice" brings Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean together on Australian ice for the first time in a decade.
The world-famous duo has trained a team of well-known personalities in the expert art of ice-dancing, ready to compete in a live ice-skating spectacular.
Olympic swimming gold medallist and world record holder Giaan Rooney, former Australian cricketer Michael Slater, hot Aussie model Lara Bingle, Today host Karl Stefanovic, Federal MP Jackie Kelly, Getaway's Jules Lund, 2006 Young Australian of the Year Trisha Broadbridge, actress and model Annalise Braakensiek, AFL legend Dermott Brereton and the hunky Jake Wall will all be getting their skates on to compete in this brand-new live entertainment event.
Over 24 million people watched Torvill and Dean skate their way to gold medal stardom at the Sarajevo Winter Olympics on Valentine's Day in 1984. Audiences around the world were captivated by their classic interpretation of Ravel's 'Bolero' which received an unprecedented score of 12 perfect sixes from the judges.
Now, "Torvill & Dean's Dancing On Ice" brings the superstar duo to Australia for the first time in over a decade, as they take responsibility for the novice skaters in this live extravaganza, with the stars each partnered with a professional ice dancer.
Torvill and Dean coach the celebrities who, with their partners, learn and perform a different routine every week on the live Tuesday night show brought to you from the Sydney Ice Arena.
A panel of judges including Karen Barber and Jason Gardiner, who both left a lasting impression in the UK series of Dancing On Ice, Australia's first Winter Olympics gold medallist Alisa Camplin, Australia's first international female figure skating champion and former Olympic coach Belinda Noonan, and international ice dancing judge, Mark Storton, will be rink-side to grade each performance. Their verdict, combined with the viewers' votes, will decide the two lowest ranked couples each week who will then face elimination in a dance-off.
The series culminates in a grand finale where one ice dancing personality will be crowned Australia's new ice sensation.
