For the first time ever, Carlo Verdone plays himself in a TV series that tells about his private life and the difficult relationship with a loving, jealous and oppressive mother: Rome. If the public image of Carlo is that of a generous man, available and always ready for a selfie with an admirer...
Rome needs a trained mayor who knows the city and who loves it as the Romans love it and who better than Carlo Verdone? Signoretti, president of the Lazio region, proposes to Verdone the candidacy for mayor of Rome. Verdone promises to think about it but due to a series of coincidences the news reaches Roberto D'Agostino's ears ... which makes it dramatically public.
Rosa, Carlo's press officer, tries to deny the rumors that he is running for mayor. When the party, however, publishes a tweet in which he announces his candidacy and the news becomes public. Doubtful about what to do, during one of his usual nocturnal walks Carlo meets Alessandro Haber who, in the grip of alcohol fumes, brings him back to the most important theme: art.
At the exhibition of his friend Antonello Venditti, Carlo argues with his son Giovanni who accuses him of not being able to say NO to anyone. In fact, Carlo not only can't decide on the candidacy for mayor, but he can't even get rid of Chicco, his daughter's boyfriend, and put a stop to Erminia, a terminally ill who persecutes him with messages and phone calls.
Carlo and Max want to go to the stadium to watch the Roma match but on the way the driver argues on the phone with his lover and crashes into some dumpsters. Carlo and Max are forced to follow the game from the hospital as they try to clear themselves with the police, who, pursued by the suspected victim, suspect they were the ones who caused the accident.
Carlo's first appointment with the pharmacist Annalisa is disturbed by Sofia, a girl looking for the morning-after pill. Carlo will recover the pill thanks to the help of Virgilio (Rocco Papaleo), finally managing to end his evening, albeit in a different way than he imagined.
After the waste scandal, the mayor resigns and early elections are expected. Carlo can no longer take time, the journalists besiege him: make the film or apply? To find peace, Carlo takes refuge in a monastery and here an unexpected encounter with Morgan, a musician who is depressed for being the victim of ghosting, takes place.
Carlo, after meeting Chicco's unreliable father, decides to welcome the boy to his home and together they prepare the speech for the upcoming televised confrontation with the Honorable Elide Santucci. Carlo beats the competition and the polls rise. But is this really what he wants?
Carlo is forced to attend the diamond wedding of his ex-wife's parents, who are unaware of their separation which took place 10 years earlier. Back in Rome, he receives a visit from Max in crisis for having been left by his wife. Despite everything, Carlo finds the courage to declare himself to Annalisa.
Now that Annalisa's marriage has come to an end, there seems to be hope for Carlo. And there is also hope for his son Giovanni, who meets the charming Giorgia during a party. Carlo finally decides to take his candidacy for mayor seriously when, after having foiled a suicide attempt at the Colosseum, his success skyrockets. Rome is ready, but is he?
The actor's success and popularity undergo an abrupt halt: a joke from Carlo against Totti, in fact, makes criticism mount and leads him to a collapse. As if that were not enough, Carlo is also discharged by Annalisa who has decided to return with husband, used and betrayed, Carlo is happy only for Maddalena's return from London.
