On the way from Moscow to his new duty station, young investigator Vsevolod Pashin becomes an unwitting witness to a car setup. He stands up for the injured Krasnov. The case is being investigated by the homicide department of the Zavolzhsky District Police Department of the city of Ensk: an investigative team consisting of senior investigator, Major Evgeny Churilov, Captain Ilya Verkhovsky, operative Eduard Krasavchek and forensic expert Tatiana Sokolova.
