'In the 1989 WSOP Main Event a 24-year-old Phil Hellmuth halted Johnny Chan's quest of a third consecutive WSOP Main Event title. In this 2011 WSOP Grudge Match, Chan looks to rewrite the history books against Hellmuth as both players square off as each player starts with 890,000 in chips - the same total chips in play when they battled for the 1989 WSOP Main Event title. Chris Moneymaker sparked the poker boom when he defeated Sammy Farha in the 2003 WSOP Main Event. Some believe that the poker professional shouldn't have lost to the amateur, and now Farha has the chance to seek his revenge in this 2011 WSOP Grudge Match. The first match sees the same chip counts when they played heads-up in 2003 before the second match will see the counts reversed. If a third match is needed, both stacks will be equal to decide once and for all if it was all luck or all skill for Moneymaker.
The $25,000 Heads-Up Championship began with 128 players, but now just four remain as Yevgeniy Timoshenko faces Eric Froehlich and Jake Cody takes on Gus Hansen. The final four are guaranteed $283,966, but eyes are locked on the $851,192 first-place prize and the first open bracelet of the 2011 WSOP.
Both Jake Cody and Yevgeniy Timoshenko have defeated six opponents in the 2011 WSOP $25,000 Heads-Up Championship, but they must defeat one more if they are to call themselves the champion.
