Every year Derbyshire's Traffic Cops deal with over 300 life-changing and fatal collisions. Many are due to excessive speed and involve the most vulnerable - the young and the elderly. There's a serious crash involving a young motorcyclist and an elderly pedestrian. Paramedics are on site but are unable to save the older male. Evidence from witnesses and CCTV are examined by the crash investigation team, leading to the arrest of the biker, charged on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. A young and inexperienced teenager with a provisional driving licence collides with a wall and overturns her car. Despite the extensive damage, it's a lucky escape and the young girl is unharmed but faces court action. And officers attend a two car collision between an elderly couple and a young man whose car was flipped onto its side when driven into head on at a junction.
An estimated £10 billion worth of illegal drugs are sold in the UK every year. In this episode, Traffic Cops crack down on drug gangs ruling through fear and the dealers cashing in on their victims. Officers respond to intelligence on a vehicle thought to be linked to organised crime, resulting in the arrest of a suspected drug dealer believed to be trafficking a million pounds worth of cocaine. Persistence and patience are key in catching criminals involved in the supply of drugs and, after four days of surveillance on a local suspect, officers track down and arrest the man they have been searching for. And Traffic Cops respond to a call for back up following a report that small packets of white powder were thrown out of the window of a vehicle being chased by another unit.
With Derbyshire bordered by seven counties, policing its roads for criminals on the move is a daily challenge. In this episode, cops respond to intelligence that a possible cloned vehicle, thought to be responsible for a string of car key burglaries in North-East Derbyshire, is heading towards Chesterfield. Officers pursue and manage to puncture the vehicle's tyres and then chase and arrest two suspects who run into a nearby field. On the M1, officers pull over a driver, where checks reveal he is disqualified and without insurance. He has a previous history of violent offences and they bring him to custody and interview him, having found a flick knife on him and a hammer in his car, all of which he denies have anything to do with any kind of criminality. And near Chesterfield, police hunt for a stolen caravan. Having been alerted by a tracker on the vehicle, the caravan is soon found on an industrial site but the driver makes a run for it.
