After eight years away, a young woman reluctantly returns to the small island community where she grew up.
An excited Màiri and Alasdair move to the island, though Alasdair must say goodbye to a mystery woman before he leaves. While Màiri settles into island life, Alasdair struggles to free himself from the mystery woman's needy pleas. Iain's heart skips a beat when he sees Ciorstaidh for the first time, and Donna and Finlay welcome their first guest, Raonaid, to the B&B.
Alasdair excuses himself to the city without telling Màiri the real reason for his visit, only to come home and find Màiri and Donneil together - and close. Little does Iain know that he's being watched by his nemesis while he spends quality time with Ciorstaidh. Raonaid impresses the crofters with her veterinary skills, while Tormod reluctantly takes a new job on Seumas's boat.
With Alasdair back in the city, a chat with Màrtainn leaves Màiri suspicious, and she's forced to go and find out what's going on - but she could never have imagined the truth she discovers. Back on the island, a stranger arrives - brazen and beautiful and bound to set the cat amongst the pigeons, especially with Donneil. A desperate Finlay blackmails Donneil for a job, while Donna splashes the cash at a boutique hotel.
Màiri is hostile towards Alasdair following his revelation in the city, but nothing can prepare her for the shock she gets when an old book, placed in an unusual location, leads her to discover another chilling secret. Life is a struggle for Tormod as he tries his hand at crofting, and Iain and his friend Anndra are left humiliated after their business pitch at the Trust.
Màiri strives to get her life back on track as Alasdair moves in with Iseabail but, sensing Alasdair's heartache, Iseabail takes the initiative to fix things - she tells Màiri the real truth. Nevada finally tracks Donneil down, though he's far from welcoming. As Iain, Anndra and Ciorstaidh celebrate their new enterprise, the party ends on a sour note - and with a broken heart.
