Born and raised on the Sea Islands of Charleston, South Carolina, cook and caterer Kardea Brown grew up in a big family with a love for food, especially the cherished recipes they passed down from generation to generation. She began cooking as a child in her grandmother's kitchen, where she learned to make the traditional dishes of the region. In Delicious Miss Brown, Kardea shares the family events, culture and recipes close to her heart - including Sunday supper after crabbing on the dock, a low country boil at the beach and shrimp boating to prepare for the ultimate Shrimp Fest.
Kardea Brown leans into her freezer and pantry on a night she doesn't have much inspiration to cook. She uses some prepared items to make a full, fresh, delicious and hearty meal with a Salad Bar Salad, Chicken Pot Pie Stuffed Biscuit Cups, Corn Soufflé with Jalapenos, and Semi-Homemade Chocolate and Caramel Shortbread Bars.
Aunt TC is home sick from work, and Dr. Kardea Brown is in the office! She cooks up some simple elixirs to get her feeling better quickly, including Roasted Chicken and Dumplings, Seasoned Saltine Crackers, Tuna Melts on Pumpernickel Rye, and Citrus, Ginger and Honey Ice Pops.
Kardea Brown loves to cook with seasonal ingredients grown locally and in her garden, so she takes that inspiration and throws a beautiful garden party for her girlfriends. She stays fresh with Creamy Leek and Steak Pasta, Low Country Style Shrimp Toasts with House Pickled Okra, Mixed Berry Crumble and White Sangria.
Kardea Brown's firefighter brother loves spicy food, so he swings by after a shift at the firehouse for a hot and spicy supper. Kardea gets fired up with Spicy Korean-Inspired Fried Chicken Wings, Kimchi Fried Rice and Spicy Cucumber Salad before cooling things down with Blackberry Milkshakes.
