Plots centre on the domestic and professional lives of the residents of Carrigstown, a fictional suburb on the north side of Dublin. The area encompasses a restaurant, pub, garage, corner shop, community centre, charity shop, surgery and various businesses. Originally aired as one half-hour episode per week for a limited run, the show is now broadcast year round on RTE One in four episodes per week, all of which air at 20:00. Fair City is the most watched drama in Ireland, with regular viewing figures of between 500,000 and 600,000. Devised by Margaret Gleeson, it has remained a significant programme in terms of RTE's success and audience share, and also in the history of Irish television drama, tackling many controversial and taboo issues previously unseen on Irish television.
Emma gives James an ultimatum. Jess is thrilled when she bonds with new boss Joan. Mairead angers Tyler when she reveals his money woes to Renee and Bosco.
Jess gets a dose of reality when Joan cracks the whip. Furious at being forced back to work for his father, James takes his anger out on Sharon.
Dean and Mairead's Christmas is disrupted by Damien's surprise return. Carol and JJ's festive romance hits a stumbling block.
Tyler's twisted plan has dire consequences for Damien. JJ pursues romance but Carol keeps her eye on the prize when she decides to sell the bookies.

As Fidelma advises James to be cautious, he presses ahead, getting deeper in with Tyler. When JJ decides to help Carol improve her business, Sash looks forward to fireworks.
James stuns Det. Fidelma Taylor by proving he has Tyler's confidence. Alex tries to uncover the truth about Melanie's return.
