Every episode finds Tim the "Tool Man" Taylor causing his share of goof-ups and mishaps and leaving his long-suffering wife, Jill, family and friends to mop up the mess.
When Jill's cousin's wedding day arrives, The Taylor family stays at a resort. Tim does everything he can to have outdoor fun with the kids and avoid most of the wedding festivities.
After a early morning meeting with the new owner of Binford Tools, Tim must choose between his career and friendshi when his new boss want's him to fire Al.
Tim joins Jill's literary group when he feels threatened by her male classmate.
Jill's surprise 40th birthday party may be ruined if Tim's plans to surprise her with both a party and a special present go awry. Al has his Flannel taken away by Bud, the new owner of the Tool Time show and Binford Tools.
Jill's amateur psychology creates problems for Tim's car repair buddy, meanwhile Wilson practices fencing in the back yard. Al turtle sits for his mother.
Brad throws a Halloween party at home without permission while Tim, Jill and Al are at a tv Awards ceremony.
Tim is pressured into standing up to Jill after he buys expensive sports tickets without consulting her.
Randy won't admit his fears when Tim converts the basement into a bedroom for him.

Tim becomes extremely nervous when Jill wants him to get a vasectomy.
Astronauts of the space shuttle Columbia visit the Tool Time set after using Tim's screwdriver in space. Jill is taking piano lessons and driving everyone nuts and Mark wants to take flying lessons after becoming interested in model airplanes.
Tim offers Harry advice after Delores decides to work at the hardware store. Alan Jackson stars on 'Tool Time' and sings 'Mercury Blues'.
Jill's sick and at the same time try's to keep an eye on Tim when a news reporter flatters him with her flirtations.
Tim fears his ideas for 'Tool Time' will be knocked down when Jill beats his boss Bud at bowling.
Bad comes home with a new style of haircut that Tim absolutely hates; Jill rehearses "Romeo And Juliet" with Randy.
Randy has to go in for tests because he has been really tired for no apparent reason and Tim and Jill anxiously await the results of the tests.
Wilson takes over as director of the Romeo and Juliet play that the school is putting and and it goes to his head.
Tim becomes concerned about his mother when she begins dating his former high school shop teacher and Tim see's him with another woman at a fancy restaurant.
After Wilson is robbed, Jill wants a home alarm system and tells Tim he can even allow 'Tool Time' to do a segment on installing it in their house.
Al's dream of success and proposing to Ilene may be snuffed out when Tim and Jill discover a defect in Al's board game while playing it.
