Kim's Convenience is the funny, heartfelt story of The Kims, a Korean-Canadian family, running a convenience store in downtown Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Kim ('Appa' and 'Umma') immigrated to Toronto in the 80's to set up shop near Regent Park and had two kids, Jung and Janet who are now young adults. However, when Jung was 16, he and Appa had a major falling out involving a physical fight, stolen money and Jung leaving home. Father and son have been estranged since.Now, Appa and Umma run the store along with Janet who is studying photography at art school. Meanwhile Jung, who secretly stays in contact with Umma and Janet, is trying to turn his life around and recently landed a job at a car rental agency. The world of Kim's Convenience is real, colourful and urban - a diverse landscape of people and places and at the heart is the Kim family and their store. While the family continues to work and live, finding humour in the everyday tasks of running the store, they long for the day when the rift between Appa and Jung is mended and the family is whole once again.
Umma finally convinces Appa to get a new dishwasher, but Appa tries to exploit a store's price matching policy; Janet changes her name to make herself more unique; Jung treads carefully with Shannon in trying to get his job back at the new, merged Handy.
Appa tries to convince Umma that he's still attractive; Jung returns to Handy; Gerald's girlfriend makes herself at home.
Appa and Umma unwittingly end up in marriage counseling; Jung learns more about Shannon's boyfriend than he bargained for; Janet debates whether or not to share a potential mentor with Gerald.
Appa tests neighbourly boundaries when he tries to get cheap wifi. Umma forces Janet to do a questionable reading at Church and Jung hits it off with Shannon's friend, Katie.
Appa unintentionally becomes the star of Gerald's award-winning photo essay. Umma realizes her family doesn't trust her in emergency situations. Janet makes a social faux pas at an exclusive restaurant.
Appa and Jung try out the old family ping pong table; Umma's feelings get hurt when Janet refuses to hang out with her; a gift basket causes problems.
Appa and Umma search for ways to spice up their love life; Kimchee preps for his first presentation.
Kimchee's mom visits, and Jung looks forward to seeing her; Umma takes over sign duty; Gerald asks Appa for a reference letter, but Janet intervenes.
Appa and Umma invite their friends to go on vacation, accidentally; Janet accepts a photography job; Jung takes teasing too far.
Janet and Umma's fight puts Appa in the middle; Jung and Shannon offer conflicting advice.
Appa's honesty gets him into trouble; when Janet takes Gerald to the hospital, she runs into an old friend; Jung accidentally books two people to audition with him for his favourite reality show.
Umma and Appa accidentally damage a car; Janet finds out that Gerald isn't as loyal as she had thought; Jung is concerned that his birthday message is too personal.
Umma tries to hide the fact that she lost something valuable; Jung threatens to ruin Janet's chance with a yoga instructor; Shannon and Kimchee win a BBQ.
