Livstid follows investigator Victoria Woll and her colleagues. The series opens with an older Woll in her 60s serving a long prison sentence, with each episode then following Woll in the past as her team solves a crime, slowly revealing how she ended up behind bars.
Tough, straight-talking detective Victoria Woll becomes emotionally involved in a case when a child is found in a forest near her murdered mother. Ava's father is also killed in a separate but connected incident, with the motivation for the murders difficult to fathom and the suspects talking at cross purposes. At the same time, Victoria makes a powerful enemy when she antagonises Jan Devold, her department head. Her successful attempt to undermine Jan seems set to have dangerous repercussions for years to come.
Helge Nielsen - a politician trying to make a comeback after sexual harassment claims were made against him - dies in front of his family during a speech. She doesn't want it as she knows that it's a political bombshell for whoever handles it, but the team members get hooked on the case once they believe that it's a murder.
Two cops are dead, one of them an older retired officer regarded as a hero to many. The entire force is angry and out for blood. Victoria and her team are under pressure and need to find solutions to the stark questions - who is doing the killing and why?
In the present time period, it is revealed why Victoria doesn't have any time for psychiatrists. The team is tasked with solving the murder of a nurse at a high-security psychiatric unit. Victoria goes undercover, where she gets close to the world of psychiatric care - for better or for worse.
ictoria's protector, Klaus, warns her that she must find some friends. She hatches a plan to make her situation easier while also undermining Devold. Ayla and Victoria discover that nothing is as it seems with the murder of a young woman.
The future Victoria is more isolated than ever when a vital source of support is vanquished. In the present, politician Olivia Mohr's death takes Victoria and the team to unfamiliar spaces, where team members' attitudes towards particular issues drive them towards conflict.
In the future, Victoria is offered a chance to escape by a young prison guard who is collaborating with Michael. Back in the present, when a serious influenza pandemic threatens the country, Victoria is hailed as a hero when she stops an illegal shipment of important drugs out of the country. However, this action has terrifying consequences for Johannes.
Victoria wants to prove her innocence from the inside. In the present, Victoria is on the run, suspected of kidnapping and murder. But her team are catching up fast, prepared to show her loyalty and support. Will it be enough?
