Across the world, countries have turned some of their most incredible areas of natural beauty into National Parks, preserving them for generations to come. From the frozen expanse of Iceland's Vatnajökull ice cap to the steep limestone gorges of the Cévennes in southern France, this series will explore these areas by not only taking a cinematic journey from above, but also by swooping down closer to the ground to meet the people who use these landscapes every day, discovering the oftenextreme jobs they undertake and the unique lives they lead.
Snowdonia National Park in Wales is a geological wonderland of breath-taking mountains, rugged valleys and sandy coastlines. The landscape and culture are steeped in industrial heritage.
Goreme National Park in Turkey sits within a mystical landscape filled with rocky spires and smooth wind-cut valleys, but hidden within this spectacular scene is the story of those who have carved out a life here. For thousands of years, people have lived within the caves that litter the park's cliffs and the so-called 'fairy chimneys' scattered throughout.
Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina boasts magical glaciers, where the Southern Patagonian Ice Field meets the Andes Mountains. It's a windswept wilderness filled with snow-capped peaks, turquoise lakes, and vibrant communities whose lives are intimately connected to the land.
The Cevennes National Park in France is a remote expanse filled with emerald-green valleys and crowned by some of the darkest night skies in Europe. Despite the tranquillity of this area, beneath the surface is an active population working hard to keep the park's traditions alive and its identity intact.
