Relationships, community, family, and faith are in the spotlight in Shade: Queens of NYC, a docu-follow-musical-reality show that explores what happens to New York's fiercest, funniest drag queens as they vie for fame, fortune, and love. Shade: Queens of NYC reveals a side of drag life beyond the usual glam, glitz, and next-level lip syncing, instead focusing on what happens to our queens when the wigs come off. The cast of queens includes: Justin Nako/Chelsea Piers, Chris Yoon/Jasmine Rice LaBeija, William Bailey/Jada Valenciaga, Nathan McManus/Holly Box-Springs, Kristian Seeber/Tina Burner, Marti Gould Cummings/Marti Gould Cummings, Daniel Kelley/Paige Turner, and Jesse Havea/Brita Filter.
Tina, Brita, Jada, Jasmine, and Chelsea attempt to make a new show; Brita has some sudden health issues; Marti tries to juggle married life with political activism.
Paige Turner wants to host an `All Stars' version of `So You Think You Can Drag' but Chelsea is struggling with unresolved issues from the past and decides to confront Paige. Brita begins to take her health problems seriously.
Holly wants Tina to help her design the costumes for Paige Turner's final season of `So You Think You Can Drag'. Tina refuses to help Holly and Marti signs up for `Drag Queen Story Hour' to prove to his husband he's good with children.
Brita's hosting a drag competition and Jasmine desperately wants in. Knowing Jasmine is a sore loser, Brita's not really keen on letting her compete, but reluctantly agrees to put her in the show. To take her mind off the competition, Tina convinces Jasmine to set out on an adventure together in Queens.
Since Tina's apartment is overflowing with wigs and gowns, Marti convinces her to declutter and move her drag to a storage unit. But Tina is having a hard time saying goodbye to all of her stuff. Meanwhile, Holly and Brita want to hit the dating scene again.
Determined to get in better shape and live a healthier life, Brita and Jasmine join Marti at a drag queen spin class. Meanwhile, Holly is getting ready for the first night of Paige Turner's drag competition So You Think You Can Drag. Tina and Chelsea are there to make sure Holly takes home the crown.
Brita and Holly realize they spend more money than they make and turn to Paige Turner for some financial advice. Jasmine wants to reconnect with her spirituality and decides to look for a church community where she doesn't feel judged.
Marti and Blake decide to record a Christmas album in benefit of the Ali Forney Center with the help of fellow queens and Broadway legends. But the stress of its creative process is weighing heavy on their marriage.
For her final performance in So You Think You Can Drag, Holly decides to do a spoken word lip sync to Kathy Griffin's stand-up show. Although Paige is excited for the grand finale, she can't help but feel sad about saying goodbye to her beloved competition.
Tina takes the girls on a road trip to Atlantic City for the Miss'd America pageant. It's Tina's second time competing and she's determined to take home the crown with her political number. Back in New York, Brita's enjoying a day off with her mother.
Marti takes his political ambitions to the next level by campaigning for Marisa Redanty and Tom Shanahan as the new district leaders. Will he be able to convince the people in his neighborhood to get out there and vote? Jada writes a song about her troubled past to inspire LGBTQ kids to persevere in difficult times.
