The show that inspired the nation to get healthy is back with 50 contestants, one from each state in the country. New surprises await the contestants including the addition of fitness veteran, Kim Lyons as the new red team trainer. The contestants will quickly learn that only 14 of them will stay and train at the ranch while 36 will go home to compete on their own with a chance to make it back to the ranch and win $250,000. In the first challenge, the teams will square off in a wall scaling competition for the power to switch one team member's weight-loss with someone on the opposing team.
In a special two-hour episode, the contestants get a taste of life away from the ranch with a trip to the beach. The teams quickly learn that it isn't all fun in the sun after Bob and Kim put them through a series of grueling workouts in the sand. At the challenge, the teams will fight for the chance to receive care packages from their families by building mountains of sand in order reach a team flag. Meanwhile, one contestant receives devastating news from home that could force them to leave the ranch.
This week the teams must battle the buffets while going on a luxury cruise vacation. Bob and Kim show the teams how to make healthy food choices and work exercise into a vacation. During the challenge contestants will deliver room service orders all over the ship for the chance to win time with their loved ones. Each week the teams find out how much weight they have lost during the weigh-in and the losing team must send one of their own home from the ranch.
Fresh off their disappointing week, the red team finds themselves falling apart mentally under the pressure. Kim gets frustrated with her team after they refuse to follow her lead. During the temptation, the players try their hand at winning a free pass that will save them from being eliminated. The stakes get higher at the escalator challenge when the teams find out they are playing for $10,000. Each week the teams find out how much weight they have lost during the weigh-in and the losing team must send one of their own home from the ranch.
With the teams even, the players are shocked when they discover that the gym is locked for the week. Bob and Kim use the opportunity to show the teams that they can workout anywhere without using the gym. At the challenge, the blue team hopes to break their losing streak by winning "the wave" challenge at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Before they start the challenge both teams watch inspiring messages from home.
After back-to-back losses, one team must step it up in order to keep their team together. During the temptation, the teams must guess the calorie content of various restaurant foods. The losing team will lose their trainer and have to order takeout for 72 hours. For the high flying challenge, teams will have the chance to win a gourmet meal or an intense pool work out at the Bel Age Hotel on the Sunset Strip.
Caroline delivers shocking news to the teams when she announces that the red and blue teams are gone. One player will have the power to decide who will compete together as a duo. The duos must work together in an exhausting fire challenge in order to win a video phone call home. In an emotional weigh-in, the teams are shocked when an entire duo goes home.
Caroline shocks the duos when she tells them that some of the 36 state contestants are back to weigh-in for the chance to rejoin the competition. Two players rejoin the game, but they struggle to keep up with Bob and Kim's training. At the challenge, everyone has a "ton of fun" moving thousands of pounds across a huge warehouse.
As the players are narrowed down, Caroline reveals to everyone that they will now play as individuals. The remaining players will receive a makeover and a photo shoot to showcase their new thin bodies. And during the weekly challenge, one of the player's will have to face their greatest fear.
Kim teaches the contestants how to cook Thanksgiving dinner "Biggest Loser" style without sacrificing flavor. At the challenge, the players run around the Santa Anita Park race track while wearing their original weight when they arrived at the ranch. The player who crosses the finish line first wins a visit with a family member.
Bob, Kim and season two winner Matt Hoover tackle the ever growing problem of childhood obesity when they head to their high schools to teach kids about proper exercise and nutrition. While checking out the school cafeteria, Bob and Kim chat with the school lunch ladies about replacing the unhealthy options. The trainers also find the time to inspire a few really needy kids to make a lifestyle change. The kids will be challenged to go home and change their unhealthy habits while educating their entire families with all they have learned.
It's the final week at the ranch and emotions run high as the contestants prepare to return home. In the final challenge, the players decide to compete as a team in a "Biggest Loser" triathlon. After the elimination, the remaining four contestants say goodbye to their trainers and return to their families to see if they can continue losing weight on their own.
After weeks of training and careful eating, it comes down to choosing "The Biggest Loser" in this special two-hour, live season finale. The final four contestants weigh-in one last time for the chance to win the grand prize of $250,000. Jaw-dropping transformations will be seen as all 50 contestants return to reveal their newly slimmed bodies.
