Warship: Life at Sea documents the everyday life on board HMS Duncan, one of the most advanced warships in the world. With unprecedented access to the Royal Navy's £1billion Type 45 Destroyer over a seven month-period, cameras capture the most dramatic moments in the ship's short history. The series follows the ups and downs of Duncan's crew and reveals their lives on the ship in intimate detail, as these 280 men and women, including their female captain, find themselves at the centre of some of the most sensitive military operations in recent years.
Cameras focus on a female lieutenant training to become a captain. Then, upon entering the Mediterranean, there's an emergency when a crew member falls overboard into choppy waters. A desperate search begins to find him.
The crew must defend French aircraft carriers off the coast of Syria, and help evacuate Britains being held in Cyprus.
The crew have been sent to Ukraine, but the unexpected absence of Russian ships leaves everyone unsettled.
As Iranian forces take control of the British-flagged oil tanker Stena Impero and hold the crew hostage, HMS Duncan is ordered to the Persian Gulf. The captain is briefed by the captain of the Montrose - another Royal Navy ship in the region - who comes on board for a private intelligence update on Iran. After arriving in the Gulf, the Duncan escorts a tanker through the Strait of Hormuz, while Iranian forces immediately make a move and try to capture another ship, resulting in a tense stand-off.
HMS Duncan and her crew face increasing pressure in the Strait of Hormuz as Iran steps up its efforts to capture a second British tanker. Three weeks into Duncan's mission, Iran is still holding the Stena Impero captive, but international pressure is mounting against them. The ship is ordered to hold the line and continue escorting fuel tankers safely through the Strait, while awaiting relief by HMS Kent. When a fire breaks out in the engine room, it threatens the ship and the lives of some of the crew.
