You never know what you'll be bringing home from the home improvement store. You go in for grass seed but come home with new patio chairs and a bag of cement. If you're lucky enough, you could also bring home a professional landscape contractor. On DIY Network's Yard Crashers, expert Chris Lambton waits at stores looking for the perfect weekend warriors who could definitely use his help. Once he finds his target, Chris and his team follow the surprised shoppers home and completely transform their yards.
This bare yard is transformed into a griller's paradise with the addition of a barbeque island with a built-in grill and smoker. This island is covered in reclaimed Chicago Common brick veneer and topped with concrete countertops that include a bar top for entertaining. The surrounding yard is also transformed with a cedar deck remodel, privacy plantings and a bluestone and gravel patio.
Yard Crashers is taking it on the road and crashing Chicago. Host and licensed landscape contractor Ahmed Hassan finds homeowners with a giant backyard of grass, a cracked driveway and decrepit screened in porch that he's ready to transform. In just two days, the backyard is torn down and built back up with a giant antique cobble driveway patio that leads to a revived screened in porch complete with indestructible screens and one giant remote control screen the opens up into the backyard. Plus, they introduce an old piece for a new fire pit by using an antique sugar kettle shipped in from Louisiana. They build up beautiful stone around the sugar kettle and it's ready for the fire. A brand new barbeque, new grass and two truckloads of plants make this yard complete.
Yard Crashers is hitting up Las Vegas and crashing a desert backyard. Host and licensed landscape contractor Ahmed Hassan finds homeowners who can't get anything to grow in their yard, in fact, it's just dirt. In just two days, this backyard transforms from hot desert wasteland to a luxurious outdoor room complete with a custom barbeque island water table, a concrete fire feature, lush synthetic turf grass topped off with some flashy Vegas lights.
A disastrous backyard gets a major facelift. What was once a rotten retaining wall, plain dirt and shabby fence becomes a classy outdoor hangout. In two days, this backyard totally transforms as a pergola seat wall, moss rock water feature and tile patio take center stage. Plus, the homeowners have a ton of shade preventing grass from growing so host and licensed landscape contractor Ahmed Hassan uses recycled rubber mulch to create a soft surface.
An engineer's yard turns into an industrial paradise with a custom metal bar at the centerpiece with a little help from host and licensed landscape contractor Ahmed Hassan. Different types of metal are mixed to create a unique bar structure with rustic concrete counters and a steel awning overhead. A fire/water feature functions as another social gathering area and a cedar hot tub tucked into the landscaping creates a private oasis for two.
This crash muscles its way through the storm of the century to turn a neglected backyard with an abandoned water feature into a rustic mountain retreat for this outdoor loving couple. Ahmed and crew take the best parts of the homeowners' "river in progress" and transform it into a giant waterfall spilling into a running-water river bed winding around the yard and emptying into a new fire feature. Next, efforts are turned toward rehab'ing an existing patio by adding flagstone to increase the "hang out" space. The extra space creates a home for their beloved grill as part of a new outdoor kitchen featuring chunky leathered granite counters.
It's Yard Crashers largest yard yet. This huge yard goes from a bare and broken down blank slate to a pristine park. A soccer field gives the kids a place to play while a beautiful paver patio with shade structure above creates a hangout hub for adults. Host and licensed landscape contractor Ahmed Hassan creates a patio area which sports a one of a kind "aqua grill" with a water feature on one side and a BBQ on the other. A fire pit and matching benches add another entertaining area for the entire family to enjoy.
An unwelcoming spa overlooking a cluttered carport and yellowing lawn gets amped up with a yin-yang makeover. A 600 square foot composite deck mimicking tropical hardwood is built around the hot tub to extend the "hang-ability" factor. Host and licensed landscape contractor Ahmed Hassan enhances the view with a hip sheet metal wall which is welded with angular pieces of scrap metal. In the yard, an oversized octagon-shaped fire pit is plunked in the middle of a tranquil garden to give this backyard a chic yet serene style.
This yard is kicked up for some serious entertaining with a monster outdoor kitchen including a matching fire table for serving guests. A lounging area is created on one end of the pool with a synthetic wood daybed and on the other, a pop of green from synthetic grass. Host and licensed landscape contractor Ahmed Hassan incorporates "green" elements throughout, including a massive aluminum shade structure and a 42" inch outdoor television puts this backyard over the top.
Ahmed headed to Tampa, Florida to change one couple's yard from an ugly, blank slate to an entertaining paradise. A raised patio is topped off with a pergola for shade and a massive water feature along the back with lights that change colors and flames that dance on the water. A crushed shell walkway leads around the yard from the pergola lounge area to an outdoor kitchen made from polymer cabinetry and hooked up with a high-end grill, side burner and unique beverage dispenser.
A family of five gets a complete yard makeover that turns a weed filled blank space into an entertainer's paradise with a flashy outdoor kitchen that includes a grill and kegerator. A unique water feature is built into the island with water flowing down over a backlit sheet of onyx into a pebble bed below. A fire pit with matching seat walls creates a cozy gathering space with a backdrop of lush plantings.
Professional caterers get a backyard makeover that turns their blank slate into a food-producing wonderland with a very unique entertainment hub. A potting shed made from reclaimed barn wood and a recycled window is tricked out to double as a bar. Custom built stone and redwood raised planter beds are packed with edibles and a three-stage compost bin is built to create homemade compost for the whole garden
This empty, weed-filled backyard becomes an oasis with the addition of a "spool" - a spa/pool that's surrounded with rock walls and waterfalls. The back porch is renovated with a fresh coat of stain and a large sunshade is installed overhead, creating a shaded area to relax and entertain.
