You never know what you'll be bringing home from the home improvement store. You go in for grass seed but come home with new patio chairs and a bag of cement. If you're lucky enough, you could also bring home a professional landscape contractor. On DIY Network's Yard Crashers, expert Chris Lambton waits at stores looking for the perfect weekend warriors who could definitely use his help. Once he finds his target, Chris and his team follow the surprised shoppers home and completely transform their yards.
A neglected yard with nothing but nuisance tree gets transformed into a Tuscan style getaway. The tree is removed and replaced with a redwood wrapped hot tub , a new brush finished concrete patio with a stone fire feature and a wood pergola. Oversized concrete stepping-stones connect to a custom redwood swing , all surrounded by a new fence covered in Cabernet grapes.
A loud, neglected yard gets transformed into a peaceful tropical getaway. A custom waterfall drowns out noise from the frequently passing train. Beyond the waterfall, a unique concrete pathway takes you to a seating area with custom curved benches, hand made concrete tables and a one of a kind fire feature. The pathway continues to a bar made of inlaid carved wood. The entire yard is chalk full of lush tropical plants.
A neglected underused space gets a taste of Tuscany. Projects include a custom wine bar, a new stained concrete patio with outdoor teak patio furniture, a unique stone trough water feature faced with rustic steel panels and a one-of-kind potted redwood bench. A horizontal steel pony wall defines the living room space, a repurposed hammock hangs on new redwood posts, all surrounded with lush shade plants.
This empty lot, filled with chunks of broken concrete, gets a Country French makeover. First the huge yard becomes private with the installation of a 6 ft fence and 2 additional feet of lattice. Three destination hard scapes are created. One has a fire feature. A new redwood bridge connects the other two spaces. The bridge crosses a custom built waterfall and stream. Unique raised redwood planter boxes are built and planted with organic vegetables.
A dilapidated overexposed transforms into a room with a view. Features include a pre-fabricated barbeque island, and personalized with a mosaic tile, a colorful bubbling water feature, a new stone paver patio, and a decorative redwood fence notched to reveal a hidden view.
Entering this back yard you see weeds and a variety of broken unusable concrete. Now this ugly yard turned Zen sanctuary. With a sunken outdoor living room made of custom concrete. A water and fire feature all in one provides as the focal point for the space. A Yin and Yang shaped flower garden is planted with red roses.
An undesirable toy box of a yard becomes a family friendly getaway. Projects include an incredible metal screen water wall, a customized masonry couch and BBQ area, a hand crafted concrete patio and an ancient ox trough fire feature. Mature trees are planted for privacy and a meandering rock pathway installed for kids to race on.
This vast large yard gets a fire feature, which matches the newly updated water feature. And a remodeled out door grill station with a new Pergola. A custom Redwood bench is built to surround the ancient Oak tree in the space.
This narrow weed filled yard gets a one of a kind water feature that has water coming from a Steer head skull. A custom concrete seating wall is the place to sit while entertaining up to forty people. The patio gets a complete makeover with a new BBQ station and a reclaimed Barn wood coffee table. One portion of the yard has a new concrete hardscape to be used for Yoga training.
This small weed filled yard gets a one of a kind checkerboard hardscape. This goes with the metal-faced grill station to look like a Retro Chic 50s dinner. A custom Pergola is built over the grill station. Privacy panels enclose the yard and the new Hot Tub. An eyesore of a garage is covered with a beautiful Mural. A kiddie corner is created to keep the child's toys.
Matt Blashaw and crew create an Italian inspired outdoor room with a pizza oven in front of a revolving wall, which has a movie screen on the other side of it. A wet bar is built adjacent to the Pizza oven which sits underneath a pergola supported by Italian looking columns made of concrete molds. The space has a complete outdoor kitchen and bar seating area all on top of tumbled stone pavers. The space in surrounded by beautiful plants and Italian Cypress trees.
Matt and his Yard Crashers crew find a California couple with three things of value in their back yard: California Redwoods. After everything else in the yard is removed the fun starts. This yard not only triples in usable space by clearing out the overgrown plants but it also gets a complete renovation starting with new concrete patio and redwood decks. Then the crew adds all new plantings, a custom redwood bar, a colorful privacy wall and the crowning jewel: a antique water pump beer tap ready to go. The transformation is awesome and the new space so much more livable.
